Whether or not that's worth it is something only you can answer.'Other' doesn't mean junk, it just means that Apples (frankly terrible) method of categorizing files cannot categorize it. And generally, that's what money gets you over something free: convenience and ease of use. But I've also gained some new/additional functionality along with convenience. Do I feel great knowing I'm paying for functionality I used to get for free? Not really. By no means is this a must-have feature, but it is a nice additional feature.Īt the end of the day, whether or not CMMX is "worth it" is entirely dependent on you. I personally use Malwarebytes, so this isn't useful to me, but it may be useful to you.ĬMMX also gives you a quick glance at useful information from the menu bar. If you're unfamiliar with what files/data you have on your hard drive, perhaps this could be helpful at pointing you towards the largest culprits, but if you're well aware of your data and simply want to just clean up some "junk," CMMX makes that very simply and easy.ĬMMX also has additional functionality such as real-time malware protection as well as malware scanning.

CMMX takes the guesswork out of some things and makes it more user-friendly, especially when it comes to cleaning up "system junk." Some people have mentioned OmniDiskSweeper, but it's still very much a manual process. From my limited use so far, there are certainly benefits to CMMX vs the OnyX + AppCleaner combo.įor one, you get the convenience of functionality from OnyX + AppCleaner in one app. Just recently, I decide to buy CMMX and give it a try. I've used OnyX + AppCleaner for years now and have loved them. I've really gone back and forth on this topic myself. Hope this helps… sorry for the long answer forgive any typos as this is on my mobile.✌🏼 I don’t think any other company comes close to these 3.

The UI is well designed but I think Sensei and CMMX do a better job at presenting the information and helping clear it as well.Īt the end I’d recommend if you haven’t vhecked out any of these, please take a trial one by one stating with DaisyDisk then Senseiand then CMMX to see which one is worth your money. But after scanning you have to manually see how the spce is allocated in all the various bits and see which to clean up. It also can do a one click scan of the entire device for cleaning.

As I think there are separate apps with the sole purpose of monitoring the CPU/GPU/RAM stats, but Sensei just added it as another update feature, which is AWESOME 😎.ĭaisyDisk is the most complex for a layman, I think. This would compete I think with other apps I believe. Sensei also just added a menu bar monitor for stats of the laptop which is a new thing. The cleaning process is pretty simple here but CMMX is honestly the quickest and has the least learning curve (it literally only requires one click of a button). The app has also improved in UI and use case since beginning.Īs of today Sensei offers you the ‘Trim’ feature(approved by ) which allows for longer use of SSD without burning out. I have Sensei installed as well around the time I installed CMMX. The alternative usually mentioned for CMMX is Sensei and DaisyDisk I believe. However, it is always a good practice to consider alternatives. Unfortunately I haven’t found any such thing yet. People usually argue that CMMX advertising so much must have some sketchy data collection tactic in the background. It has an built in uninstaller which is also nice to uninstalls some apps that you may not want.

It is quite intuitive and makes the difficult process of cleaning every corner much easier. I personally have it installed over the last few years and use it on a weekly basis to clean out junk or to empty the RAM daily if things get slow. There’s honestly a bunch of opinions I have read across subreddits…ĬMMX has a smart scan feature which essentially makes the whole cleaning everything process simple. But if you want to implement OmniDiskSweeper into a native method, the above is the best go-to route and now I know why so many people say “you don’t need a cleaner app”. Be careful about essential root files since deleting them can lead to issues (basically don’t tamper with files you don’t recognize).īefore this, I was using OmniDiskSweeper which is still a great app. That way, you can easily go through what’s taking up most storage and delete it. Now, do the Columns view for Finder and go to the one of the very most root paths such as your user folder or even beyond that like the device itself (e.g.

I’ve had a Mac for about 5 years (yes I’m a newcomer) and I agree with people saying that you don’t need any cleaner app.
